Renewed by Mercy
He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior (Titus 3:5, 6)
Scripture: Titus 3:1-7
Many years ago an industry in our small town hired a new vice president named Urban. My friend, the human resources director, had to bow to numerous changes this man thought imperative to good business. Even if they were needed, his demanding methods turned employees toward mutiny. My friend, being a peacemaker, tried to joke about the changes by calling the man Urban Renewal. In the 70s and 80s this pun brought laughter and relieved some of the employees’ stresses.
Urban’s renewal methods left much to be desired. However, the method Christ uses to renew us in body, mind, and spirit comes by washing away our sins. Then He fills us with the Holy Spirit as we commit our lives totally to Him. We are saved only by His mercy, for we could do none of this for ourselves.
Mercy, best described as “compassion shown by one person to another” isn’t practiced much in our world today. But heavenly Father practices it with His children every day of their lives.
Dear Lord, make me ever so grateful for Your amazing mercy. Open my eyes to the wonders You offer me as I accept Your salvation. Thank You for pouring out your Holy Spirit to lead and guide me daily. And give me opportunities to share Your mercy with those I meet today. I love You! In the holy name of Jesus, amen.
