Have you every heard something that just does not seen right and you could not lay your finger on what’s the problem? Ever experience someone explaining something and after they get finished you do not know anymore than you did before they started talking. Have you ever heard of something that sounded too good to be true? Of course, everyone has, and there is an old saying “if it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is.” In each of these cases a little alarm goes off in your head and somehow you know that you are being deceived. It does not matter if this is the first time that you have heard the lie, you just know that something is wrong. I think that the Holy Spirit works in the same fashion when it comes to sin. John 14:26 tells us the Holy Spirit will teach us and bring us into remembrance of his word. John 16:13 says the Holy Spirit will guide us in truth. If we let the Spirit talk to us, he will keep us out of a lot of trouble, even if we have never been in the situation before. Like the little voice in our head, if we ignore the Holy Spirit we do it at our own peril because the Devil is out to deceive us on every hand.
