One thing is needful.

[There are] many that say, Who will show us [any] good? LORD, lift thou upon us the light of thy countenance. Thou hast put gladness in my heart, more than in the time when their grain and their wine increased.

As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so my soul panteth after thee, O God. My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God.–O God, thou [art] my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is.

I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.–Lord, evermore give us this bread.–Mary . . . sat at Jesus’ feet, and heard his word.–One [thing] have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to enquire in his temple.

Where shall wisdom be found?

I personally love the old Daily Light for the Daily Path devotional. The way the Scriptures are woven together are so beautiful. And they fit so perfectly it is another example of how the Bible, though written with different “pens”, truly has but one Author. I hope you enjoy this selection:

Where shall wisdom be found?

If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all [men] liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.–Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.–The only wise God.–Be not wise in thine own eyes.

Ah, Lord GOD! behold, I cannot speak: for I [am] a child. But the LORD said unto me, Say not, I [am] a child: for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee, and whatsoever I command thee thou shalt speak. Be not afraid of their faces: for I [am] with thee to deliver thee, saith the LORD.

Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give [it] you. Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.–All things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.

Godly Sorrow

A selection from “Daily Light for the Daily Path”:

Godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of.

Peter remembered the word of Jesus, which said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. And he went out, and wept bitterly.–If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us [our] sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.–The blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

Mine iniquities have taken hold upon me, so that I am not able to look up; they are more than the hairs of mine head: therefore my heart faileth me. Be pleased, O LORD, to deliver me: O LORD, make haste to help me.

Turn thou to thy God: keep mercy and judgment, and wait on thy God continually.

The sacrifices of God [are] a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.–He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds.–He hath shewed thee, O man, what [is] good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?
