1 Corinthians 3:19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness.

Last week the weather forecast was for several inches of snow for our area. We got only a small amount though, not that I’m complaining. Then we had a forecast for average temperatures over the weekend; Saturday we were over 50F! That’s hardly “average” for where we are in January. Then last night I heard the sweetest words, ones I never thought I would hear: “Folks, it’s totally up in the air, we really don’t know what the conditions will be, just that they will vary a lot from north to south”, the weatherman said. Finally! One admitted they not only didn’t know but, more or less, were clueless. For all our satellites, super computers, complex algorithm weather models, and such, we still can’t even say what tomorrow’s weather will be like. Some “wisdom” we have to boast about, isn’t it?

But the good news in this thought is God knows. Not only does He know, He controls it all. Think about that the next time the devil tries to disrupt your life, steal your joy with little worries over this and that. If God’s hand controls the huge stuff, like weather systems, don’t you think He is able to handle all the other smaller things, too? Just give it over to Him; He knows what to do with it.

The Forecast

Our area, the Ohio River Valley, was expecting a sizable snowfall this weekend. The accumulations were predicted to be in the six inch range. We ended up with maybe two inches, most of which had melted by Saturday night.

Meteorologist say this part of the country is hard to forecast. I can’t recall exactly but it has something to so with out proximity to the Ohio River and the Appalachian Mountains. As of right now, they are calling for another big snowfall middle of the week, 4-6 inches. I’m not putting a lot of stock in their forecast at this point.

Over the years, many individuals and groups have made predictions, or forecasts if you will, concerning our Lord’s return. The Bible clearly teaches no man knows when Jesus will return, only the Father knows, but that He will return for His church. None of the predicted dates have been correct and the current ‘trend’ of forecasting a date on the Mayan calendar will not be either. I put no stock in those or any other of man’s forecasts of the end of time, or Day of the Lord. No, I put my stock, faith, in God’s Word alone.

2 Peter 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
