Forefathers

John 8:36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free
indeed.

Sunday evening Aunt Toots gave me a print out about the signers of the
US Constitution and the things they endured as a result of fighting
for our freedom. Some of the things I was familiar with and others
not. It was very interesting and eye-opening to read of the sacrifices
these forefathers had made for the birth of this nation. Without them
and their selfless acts we might well not have the freedoms we have
today.

Christ was the ultimate Sacrifice. He bore our iniquities. He took our
punishment. He assured the birth of the Church. And He made it
possible for us to have true freedom, no matter our place of residence
here on earth.

The founding fathers ratified the Constitution with the stroke of
their pens and made their sacrifices afterward. Jesus ratified the New
Covenant through the stroke of hammers upon nails with His life’s
blood after He had endured much with even greater suffering yet to
come. It’s true: freedom never is free, someone has to pay for it.
